How We Review Automotive Gear

Our reviews are designed to help readers make a safer, better-informed purchase. We begin with the job a product needs to do, then compare the details that affect real-world usefulness.

1. Define the use case

We identify the intended driver, vehicle type, skill level, budget, and problem the product should solve.

2. Check compatibility and safety

We review fitment, power requirements, operating limits, published safety guidance, warranty coverage, and important restrictions.

3. Compare meaningful criteria

Criteria vary by product. For an inflator, that may include inflation speed, gauge accuracy, duty cycle, hose reach, and noise. For an OBD2 scanner, it may include supported protocols, live data, update policy, and vehicle coverage.

4. Separate evidence from marketing

We use manufacturer documentation, credible third-party information, and patterns in verified owner feedback. We disclose when a recommendation is based on research rather than hands-on testing.

5. Explain tradeoffs

Every recommendation should include practical strengths, limitations, and checks to make before ordering.
